Hawaii Calling

Hawaii Calls was a radio program that captivated listeners with its live broadcasts of Hawaiian music from 1935 to 1975. The show originated from Waikiki Beach and was initially transmitted via short wave radio to the mainland United States. Later, it was taped for satellite broadcast from the Tropics Showroom at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and could be heard on 50 radio stations across the country. Harry Owens, the composer of the popular song "Sweet Leilani," conducted the live music for the first two years of the program. Unfortunately, Hawaii Calls is no longer on the air, but it left a lasting legacy as a beloved radio program that introduced many people to the rich culture and traditions of Hawaii.
