Radio Active

Radio Active is Wellington’s premier alternative radio station, broadcasting across 88.6FM (formerly 89FM) and online at www.radioactive.fm. Established in 1977 as the student radio station for Victoria University of Wellington Students’ Association (VUWSA), Radio Active pioneered FM broadcasting in New Zealand in 1981. Originally operating on AM, the station transitioned to FM and, in 1997, became one of the first New Zealand stations to embrace online broadcasting.
